The Social Sciences Division (SSD) is a Division of the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council , which an autonomous body working under the Ministry of Food Agriculture and Livestock (MINFAL).
The SSD conducts research in areas of Agricultural Economics, Rural Sociology, Agricultural Extension.
MANDATE
To:
Plan coordinate and conduct research in social sciences disciplines in close collaboration with biological scientists . | |
| Do research in support of farm technology design and its transfer to farmers’ fields. |
| Study the impact of farm policy on farm output, income and employment. |
AREAS OF RESEARCH
The Social Sciences Division has been conducting research in the following areas:
Diagnostic studies, Production Economics, Agricultural Marketing, Impact Evaluation, Policy Studies, Agricutural Database and Farm planning. So far 256 studies have been undertaken by the Division.
PUBLICATIONS
Pakistan Journal of Agricultural Social Sciences (PJASS).
The SSD publishes an international journal, the "Pakistan Journal of Agricultural Social Sciences (PJASS)".So far seven volumes have been published. Agricultural social scientists from all over the world are encouraged to contribute to the journal.
Administrative Setup
The Social Sciences Division (SSD) is one of the three technical Divisions at PARC. The Division is headed by a Member. There are three Directorates (Directorate of Agri-Economics, Directorate of Agri-Business and Directorate of Agri- Marketing) and one Institute (Social Sciences Institute) working under the supervision of Member Social Sciences. The Division operates in the field through its Agricultural Economics Research Units (AERUs) located one each at all the four provinces of Pakistan, one at the Federal Capital and one at Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJ&K).
